TopstepX connects with an API key you generate inside your Topstep account. Nothing to install: the connection lives on our servers and keeps working with your computer off.

Before you start

  • Your TopstepX username.
  • An API key generated in TopstepX (from your profile section).

Step by step

  1. 1Go into your TopstepX account and generate an API key from your profile section.
  2. 2Copy it: it is shown only once.
  3. 3In TradingNote, go to Accounts → New account → TopstepX and paste your username and the API key.
  4. 4Pick which accounts to bring over. We suggest the challenge limits based on the account type; confirm or adjust them.

The limits that liquidate your account are declared by you. No broker publishes them over API, so TradingNote suggests them but cannot guess them: review them before saving or the risk alerts won't help.

On funded accounts, the balance Topstep returns is the payout balance and can start at 0. TradingNote detects this and uses your declared capital instead.
